ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.53 g, 12 h), Niketes, Dionysios and Mene..., magistrates, 130/29. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet adorned with Pegasos and long tendril on the bowl, and with the foreparts of four horses above the visor. Rev. A-ΘE / NI-KH-THΣ / ΔΙΟ/ΝΥ/ΣΙΟΣ / ME/NE Owl standing facing on amphora; to left, facing gorgoneion with protruding tongue; on amphora, Γ; in exergue, ΑΠ; all within laurel wreath. Thompson 937a var. (differing control). Nicely toned and with a lovely reverse symbol. Very fine.
